How to Replace a Kataba Japanese Saw Blade (10.5” / 265mm)

How to Replace a Kataba Japanese Saw Blade (10.5” / 265mm)

Replacing your Kataba saw blade is incredibly fast and easy.
If your blade has chipped teeth or feels dull, swapping it for a fresh replacement blade will instantly restore its aggressive cutting power and save you time and energy.

The Kataba Advantage: Tool-Free Replacement

Unlike saws that require a screwdriver, the traditional Japanese Kataba (Single-Edged) saw features a brilliant hook-and-lock mechanism. You can attach and detach the blade simply by tapping the handle. Once you get the hang of it, you can replace  the blade in a short time.

If cutting thick lumber or 2x4s suddenly feels like a heavy workout, that is your sign to change the blade. Let’s look at how to replace the blade on your SUIZAN Kataba 10.5-inch (265mm), along with a quick video guide.

Step-by-Step Instructions: The "Tap" Method

1,Remove the old blade.
Hold the blade near its base with the cutting teeth facing UP.
Lightly tap the bottom (butt end) of the wooden handle against a workbench or a piece of scrap wood. The vibration will safely pop the blade out of the metal fitting.

2,Hook in the new replacement blade.
Hook the new blade into the metal slot on the handle.
This time, hold the blade near the base with the cutting teeth facing DOWN.

3. Tap to lock it securely.

Make sure the blade and the handle are perfectly aligned in a straight line. Tap the bottom of the handle against the workbench one more time. This upward force will securely lock the blade's hook deep into the handle.

Important Safety Notes & Tips
Match the Blade to the Handle: Every saw requires a specific replacement blade. For your SUIZAN 10.5-inch handle, you must strictly use the Kataba 10.5-inch (265mm) replacement blade.

Handle with Care: The new teeth are razor-sharp. Please be very careful not to cut your hands or fingers during the replacement process.

Note for European Models: On some SUIZAN Kataba saws designed for the European market, you might notice a tiny gap between the metal fitting (spine) and the blade after installation. Please rest assured that this is a normal part of the design and does not affect the cutting performance or safety whatsoever.

Restore Your Powerful, Straight Cuts
The Kataba saw is structurally designed for powerful, straight, and efficient cuts. By replacing the blade regularly, you maintain the tool's true cutting potential and keep your woodworking projects highly efficient.
